Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is an ideal way to enhance the beauty of your smile through a non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel.
Whiter teeth have recently become the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, and there are a number of ways to whiten teeth. At home tooth whitening systems are the most popular way to whiten teeth dramatically. Tooth whitening only works on natural tooth enamel, so it is important to evaluate and replace any old fillings, crowns, etc. After bleaching dental restorations can be matched so they will match the newly bleached teeth.
In order to maintain your newly whitened smile it is necessary to bleach your teeth for 30 minutes every 10-12 weeks. In order to maintain your new lighter tooth color it's important to avoid smoking and limit coffee, tea and wine.
What does teeth whitening involve?
Tooth whitening usually requires two visits. During the first appointment, impressions will be made of your teeth to create custom, clear plastic trays.
The second appointment will include trying on the trays for proper fit, and adjusting if necessary. Whitening trays are worn with special whitening solution either overnight for two or three weeks or twice a day for 30 minutes depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. During whitening it is normal to experience some tooth sensitivity, but it will subside shortly after you have stopped bleaching.
You will receive care instructions for both your teeth and trays. In order to maintain your beautiful, healthy, white smile you will be encouraged to visit your dentist regularly.
